Coalition of Modern Artists – COMA was founded in 1982 in Berkeley, California by a group of struggling Artists. We were musicians, dancers, actors, playwrights, visual & fine artists and film makers who could not buy a gig. One night we realized that between all of us, we had everything we needed, except money, to produce about anything we wanted. And that’s just what we did.
When COMA moved east to NYC, we started to delve into the business aspect of the “entertainment industry”. We began presenting workshops on the legal aspects of the business such as protecting one’s rights and understanding contracts. We also offered management and marketing services. However, our dream was always to change the way Artists were treated in the marketplace. Thanks to technology and the Internet, we are about to do that.
COMA is us & you: Artists. We are a dedicated, Artist run multimedia production company that wants to bring real artistic expression to the world (not too lofty a goal, huh?), and we want to do it without the Artist having to sign away every right and all control just for a chance.
